課程概述

This course, as fundamental building block of doctoral study in the program of health policy and management, consists of three parts. The first part discusses the aims of education, the nature of public health, the structure of scientific revolution, and becoming an investigator. The second part presents social transformation of health system including social changes, health transition, health industry, health care management, health care reforms, and towards health for all. The third part - Know Your Professor - provides a unique opportunity for students to learn more about the faculty, including career trajectory, research interest, and state of the art of research. 

課程目標
 At the end of this course students should be able to:
1.describe the nature of education, public health, and academic research;
2.illustrate social transformation of health system and health for all;
3.describe individual faculty’s current research interest and their significant professional works.
 
課程要求
 This course meets for two hours once a week and is conducted mainly as a participatory seminar. Students are expected to read the required readings and prepare a short critique before the class. On January 8, 2012, students have to turn in an essay, explaining “who I am, where I come from, and which way I choose to go”. Students will be graded according to their performance in short critique (30%), class discussion (40%), and the essay (30%).
